Why Duchesne Preschool?

The state of Nebraska mandates a ratio of 1 to 10 for 3-year-olds. Duchesne’s limit is 1 to 6. For 4-year-olds, the state mandates a ratio of 1 to 12. Duchesne’s limit is 1 to 7.

Duchesne Preschool requires the lead teacher to have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in education, and many have a Masters’ Degree as well. By using our 5 goals as part of the interview process, we find dedicated teachers who believe in our mission and return year after year!

The Duchesne Preschool’s curriculum is based on a love of God, love for one another, and an atmosphere of peace and kindness. Faith is an integral part of the program.

The academic program includes specialist teachers in the areas of art, computer education, music, P.E., and Spanish. These age-appropriate programs integrate the preschool skills being presented in the classroom and provide introductions that set the foundation for further exploration in these areas throughout the child’s life.

Many of the Sacred Heart traditions established over the past 200 years are honored in the preschool. These include the Feast Day of Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne, Mater, the Christmas lambs, and Prize Day.

Duchesne Preschool has a 12-year old certified therapy dog, Duffy.  He is a loveable Bichon Frisé which is a non-shedding, hypo-allergenic, small but sturdy, tolerant breed who loves children. Duffy helps children who are having a rough transition to school, who are sad, or are sick. He also loves to visit the classrooms and run on the soccer field with his preschool friends. Due to his age, we added another therapy puppy, Wilbur, who is a 1-year old Yorkie-Poo.  Wilbur proudly passed his 4 tests and is now licensed through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs.  He has all the spunk of a younger puppy and is treasured by the students

In an effort to make drop-off and pick-up smooth, safe, and convenient for parents, the preschool provides curb service for arrival and dismissal. Parents remain in their cars while we load and unload children. A side benefit of this process is that it facilitates an easier separation from parents, especially in those first few weeks of school.

Our families come from 20-25 different zip codes each year.  We make a conscious effort to reach out to a wide range of families. Financial Aid is available.
