Why Duchesne Preschool?

The state of Nebraska mandates a ratio of 1 to 10 for 3-year-olds. Duchesne’s limit is 1 to 6. For 4-year-olds, the state mandates a ratio of 1 to 12. Duchesne’s limit is 1 to 7.

Duchesne Preschool requires the lead teacher to have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in education, and 52% of the preschool teachers have a Master’s Degree. Turnover is very low, because by using the five Sacred Heart goals as part of the interview process, Duchesne finds dedicated teachers who believe in the mission and return year after year!

The Duchesne Preschool’s Sacred Heart curriculum is based on a love of God, love for one another, and an atmosphere of peace and kindness. Faith is an integral part of the program.

The academic program includes specialist teachers in the areas of art, computer education, music, P.E., and Spanish. These age-appropriate programs integrate the Preschool skills being presented in the classroom and provide introductions that set the foundation for further exploration in these areas throughout the child’s life.

Many of the Sacred Heart traditions established over the past 200 years are honored in the Preschool. These include the Feast Day of Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne, Mater, the Christmas lambs, and Prize Day.

In an effort to make drop-off and pick-up smooth, safe, and convenient for parents, the Preschool provides curb service for arrival and dismissal. Parents remain in their cars while we load and unload children. A side benefit of this process is that it facilitates an easier separation from parents, especially in those first few weeks of school.
