Meet the Preschool Team

I am Sara Wachter, Duchesne Preschool Director and a 1979 graduate of the Academy. I was blessed to return to Duchesne in the fall of 1998 to establish the preschool. Four generations of women in my family were educated at Duchesne which has instilled in me a passion for Sacred Heart education. My mom just celebrated her 75^th reunion from Duchesne Academy and the 5^th generation of our family enrolled in Duchesne Preschool a year ago. I hold a BA in Elementary Education from Saint Mary’s of Notre Dame and a Masters’ of Science in Educational Administration. 

What makes Duchesne Preschool so unique? We voluntarily lowered the student-teacher ratio to almost half of what the state recommends in order to give each child individual instruction and attention. Our dedicated and experienced staff boasts 52% with a Masters’ Degree, and includes specialist classes in art, computer education, music, P.E., and Spanish. We have two therapy dogs who come to school every day, Wilbur and Duffy. They are both non-shedding, certified therapy dogs who are deeply loved by the preschool children, and they have an almost magical ability to help children work through challenges. What truly sets Duchesne Preschool apart from any other school is our Sacred Heart education rooted in the Five Goals and enriched with 200-year-old traditions.

At Duchesne Preschool, we create opportunities for child-driven curiosity, purposeful play, and building community in the classroom. Parents may select the 3-day or 5-day program with the opportunity to add before care and after care to the school day.
